Nuno Felting

"Nuno" (Japanese for "fabric") felting, also known as laminated felting, is a process of melding loose fiber, usually wool, into a sheer fabric such as silk gauze -- brings a contemporary style & look to an ancient method. Create wearable art, a wall-hanging or decorative piece suing merino wool on silk. Your fabric creation will be extremely lightweight, flexible & truly unique!

Dyeing Merino Wool and Silk Fibers

Learn methods to dye extra fine Merino wool and silk fibers. Workshop covers dye chemistry and how it affects wool and silk fibers to create vibrant colors that will not run or bleed. Fibers created can be used in the Nuno Felting class.

Textile Manipulation

Learn to add texture to textiles by folding, pleating and pressing. Create samples & trimmings to embellish quilts, bags, accessories & wearable art.

Fiber Collage

Fiber collage is the art of layering and sewing together small pieces of silks, exotic yarns & threads into a one-of-akind fabric. Use left over fiber & yarn to make an amazing, mosaic looking scarf!

Japanese Shibori for Wearable Art

Shibori is a process of transforming fabric from a two dimensional into a three dimensional form by folding and pleating. Workshop will explore the unique resist dyeing method of arashi shibori (pole wrapping), itajime shibori (fold & clamp) and kanoko shibori (stitch resist) fabric manipulation. The fabric is then dyed and over-dyed resulting in an array of the most fascinating combination of color and texture.
